Before you buy
Measure the space
Length times width should be about 100 sq ft or less. A 10 x 10 ft room is the limit.
Plan where it sits
Fire officials advise a stable, level surface and at least 3 feet from beds, curtains, papers and sofas. With no tip-over switch, this matters more here.
Plug it into the wall
Chicago's fire department says not to use an extension cord or power strip. The 6-foot cord limits where it can go.
Count the running cost
On high it uses 1.5 kWh per hour. Multiply that by your electric rate to see the hourly cost.
What to know before you buy
The 754200 is cheap and simple. These are the trade-offs.
No tip-over switch
It has overheat protection, but it will not shut off if it falls. Tom's Guide said it was the only heater in its test without automatic tip-over protection. The Dreo Atom One and Vornado VH200 both have it.
Close-range heat
Lasko rates it for 100 sq ft. In a 2022 test, Tom's Guide found it warmed the air within two feet by about 6°F on high and could not heat a 10 x 15 ft room.
No timer or auto shut-off
You turn it on and off by hand. Dreo's Atom One adds a 12-hour timer.
Vague thermostat
The dial has 11 positions but no temperature numbers, so you set it by feel.
Fixed direction
It blows one way. If you want heat to sweep a wider area, Lasko's CT16450 tower oscillates and is rated for 150 sq ft, for $59.99 list.
