What $99.99 does not cover

The doorbell itself is cheap to buy and simple to fit. These are the costs and chores that come after.

Saved video needs a plan

Live View and alerts work free. Recorded clips, video history and AI alerts need a Ring plan: Ring Solo is $4.99 a month or $49.99 a year for one device, Ring Multi is $9.99 a month for every device at one address. New devices get a 30-day free trial.

The camera is off while it charges

The battery is built in. You pop the whole doorbell off its mount with the included tool and charge it indoors.

No charging cable in the box

It charges over USB-C. Bring your own cable and charger.

2.4 GHz Wi-Fi only

It will not join a 5 GHz-only network. Ring recommends at least 10 Mbps upload for 2K video.

Zoom is digital

The up to 6x Enhanced Zoom crops the 2K image. It is not an optical zoom.

Plan names changed in 2026

Ring renamed its Ring Home plans in 2026. Home Basic is now Ring Solo and Home Standard is now Ring Multi, with no extra charge for existing subscribers.
