What JBL left out
The Charge 6 gets the basics right for an outdoor speaker. These are the gaps buyers run into.
No microphone
There is no speakerphone and no voice assistant. If you want to take calls on the speaker, it cannot do it.
Auracast instead of PartyBoost
It links with other Auracast JBL speakers. It will not link with a Charge 5 or other older PartyBoost models.
No cable in the box
You get the speaker and a strap. Bring your own USB-C cable and charger.
One device at a time
It does not hold connections to two phones at once, so swapping who plays music takes a re-pair.
Playtime Boost costs bass
The mode stretches the battery from 24 to 28 hours, and Tom's Guide found a big dip in bass while it is on.
A phone charger, not a laptop charger
The built-in power bank can top up a phone. JBL says it does not charge laptops.
Charge 6 or Flip 7?
Charge 6
24 hours of play and a power bank for your phone. The pick for long days outside.
Flip 7
Smaller and 1.82 lb, with up to 14 hours of play. Better if it goes in a bag every day.
The Charge 6 came out in 2025 at $199.95 and JBL often discounts it to $149.95. It replaced the Charge 5, which JBL rates at 20 hours and IP67, and adds IP68, Auracast and 4 more hours of play. Prices move, so check today's price before you buy.
